Another little gem of a wine from Joan Sangenís, who makes the Mas d'en Compte Blanc, a work of genius. This one is not the towering monument to hedonism that Mas d'en Compte is, but it's very good for the money (just under £10 in the UK). It's got a lovely peachy nose revealing tropical fruit such as mangoes and even bananas, on top of apricots and peaches. As it develops on the palate (and it *does* get substantially better over the first hour), it shows great depth and structure, displaying a gorgeous floral expression, honey and distant hints of lavender. It's let down slightly by a weak acidity - a bit more acidic support and backbone and it would be a really impressive wine. But don't get me wrong - this is an unusual and arresting experience and is well worth seeking out.
