Lovely clean pale straw colour, nose - classic Sauv Blanc peachy, gooseberry, lychee thing going on... Could be mistaken for a quality Kiwi Sauv Blanc. But then something slightly weird happens. It's got a distinctive apple flavour, which is good - all that fruit complexity is very gratifying. But it's earthy. I can taste the soil. This has happened to me before, curiously with a South African Pinotage - is this something about Stellenbosch and not the grape variety? I am confused. But it's not unpleasant, it's quite interesting! (The Pinotage in question was foul - like soap spuds). This is quite a fun wine, lots of character, and great acidity. Worth exploring.
