Hmm... Well you've got to give England a chance. If we play our cards right, by 2030 or 2040, "thanks" to global warming, we'll be making some of the best sparkling wines in the world. Still red wines, I'm not so sure. This Chapel Down Pinot is quite a good effort: colour quite watery, like a dark rosé, characteristic bouquet of roses and violets, but on the palate it's quite thin and brief. What you'd expect. But it does have structure. Tannin can barely be detected, but the acidity is pleasant and supports the fruit nicely. Not bad. Worth the price? No, unless you're buying it for patriotic reasons.
