Well, this is proof that cellaring makes a serious difference! The Racó d'Atans Criança is a modest wine from a very small and rather obscure winery in Montsant, Catalonia. I cellared the 2000 in 2002 or so, and had it last night. It has visibly aged - the rim is a soft orange colour - and has grown in stature as a result. It has a decadent, spicy, heady aromatic bouquet of roses and cloves, and a wonderfully voluptuous palate of leather, oak, firm tannin and layers of berries, plum and fruit compote. Pure bliss. You can get the 2001 a El Celler Català: www.elcellercatala.com/racodatans.html
