Unusually for a Syrah it has a light colour and a bouquet rather like a Pinot, with aromatics of violets, roses and tea. Also, unusually for a NZ wine, it isn't a screw cap! Low in alcohol for Syrah, too (12.5%). But... quite a respectable effort. Very pleasant, slightly chewy palate with distinguished, leathery mouthfeel and bright pepper sensations. Soft tannins and satisfying, supple finish. I would never imagine it to be a Syrah, but there you go. Life's a mystery.
